How To - Thread Inserts

Specially designed with locking coils to hold the bolt or screw in. Greatly resuces components such as lock nuts, sring washers, or wires thsough bolt heads. A space, weight, components and cost saving. How locking inserts work: One ore more of the coils has a series of straight segments. Upon entry of the bolt these straight segments are flexed outwardly, ceating pressure on the bolt. This pressure is applied between the flanks of the bolt thread so that contact area is maximised and unit pressure is minimised. It is often possible to realize cycle life excess of specification requirements. Drill : Drill to clear out the damaged thread ( if necessary) Tap :Thread insert tap supplied. Tap thread should match up with bolt Install : Wind insert in with light downward pressure untill 1/4 to 1/2 turn below surface, driving tamg towards bottom of the hole. Tang removal : Remove tool and sit back on top of tang. Tap down sharply. Do not try to twist tang off. Sparkplug and large fine threads, use long nose pliers and pull tang out.

1. Drilling and Tapping

Drilling for insert follows the standard ship practice but the special dimesnion accuracy should be maintained as shown in the tables on the product page. Thereafter "Drilled - Holes" to be tapped with our special Helical Taps(Roughing and Finishing) to make it ready for installation of inserts.

2. Prewinder Type or Mandrel Type

Prewinder:Driving through the tang, simply and slowly prewind the inserts clockwise and fit into the Tapped-Holes" to the desired position. NO FORWARD PRESSURE WHAT SO EVER SHOULD BE USED.

Mandrel: Push Mandrel forward through insert to engage tang in slot. Rotate clockwise with gentle forward push until coils take the desired position.NO FORWARD PRESSURE WHAT SO EVER SHOULD BE USED.

3. Tang Break-off Tool

To blow-off the "Notched-Tang" after fitment of insert by this Tool, give a little sharp blow to remove the tang. Now the bolt can go through and through. In blind holes, no Tang-break is required.

4. Extracting Tool

Some times inserts are erroneously installed too deep, of wrong lenghts or otherwise improperly inserted. Such inserts are removed with the help of "Extracting-Tool". Apply the tool to the insert striking the head of tool with a light blow, turning it counter-clockwise, maintaining steady downward presure.

5. Gauges

Are available in two types:
(A) HELICAL : To measure and check the accuracy of "Tapped Holes" these GO-NO-GO gauges are used.
(B) PLUG : To measure the accuracy of installed threads for allowing fitment of bolts these gauges are used.
